What happened to the dark grey background in apple books?

Recently got a new ipad. I use a Samsung phone. Don't hate me. But I LOVE the apple book app and was looking forward to having the dark grey background. Surprise, it's gone and now only black option is close. I'm so disappointed. Why? WHY! Maybe I'm just getting old. Is there a way to get it back? Guess I'll go back to using a kindle

Apple Books app Hello, I’ve noticed that Books app is changed, changed for the worse. app control became small and many functions like page turning is gone. I don't understand the craze of making the controls appear and disappear, as if one had to guess where they are and always remember where they are. all to make a beautiful but not very functional product.why? Hating the latest Apple BOOKS app update! I loooove reading my books on my iPads! I have a great newer iPad with 2TB and yet I still want to throw it with this app! The books rarely start where I left off. Highlight feature doesn’t always work or land where it should. I hate that they took away the sliding feature fore brightness and font size. Page turning….page numbers…how many pages left to a chapter….oh my gosh the list goes on! Who came up with this update? Is there ever going to be a real fix for it? I’ve waited patiently thinking..this can’t be how they are going to leave it! HELP!
