Why is my iPod Classic not recognised by iTunes?

I have an iPod classic that until today, (3/19/2025) would open in my music when connected and still accept songs. Now when I plug it in it appears as an icon on my main page but nowhere in my music/itunes. Has it finally been phased out? Is there a way to get music to it?
