I’m trying to completely remove it from my phone. The app installed an extra 5gb of “required” content. I deleted the app but my storage says the 5gb is still there. Did I just lose that space to the void???

You could try turning off AI completely, backup, then erase and restore.
However the concensus, certainly in Macs, is that once activated, Apple Intelligence takes and keeps the space.
