How to play shared Apple Music library via Bluetooth on MacBook Air?

Hello,

I have a very large music library that's stored on my iMac, and I'm accessing it via library sharing on my MacBook Air to stream music in my living room. For years I've been using an old Airport Express to play via AirPlay, but as I recently moved house, the Airport for some reason had to be reset, and since I couldn't get the legacy version of Airport Utility to work anymore, that was it—I decided to finally get a newer Bluetooth receiver for music streaming. And that's where the problems began. My laptop refuses to play tracks from my shared library through Bluetooth. If I switch back to internal speakers, the music fires up immediately. It also works fine via minijack. Additionally, if I play some of the very few tracks stored locally on the laptop, it works beautifully via Bluetooth. Only the shared library seems to not work. I've read heaps of community posts about similar issues, but I can't find any solutions that work. Resetting SMC, NVRAM, rebooting, unpairing and repairing the device, etc. etc., nothing does the trick.

Can this be worked out in 2025?

All the best,
