Home Sharing won't play through bluetooth speakers

Quoting Mark Fleming who previously asked the exact same question, but got no useful response:

I have home sharing set up. I can stream music from my office Mac to my MacBook, and all works perfectly. When I connect the MacBook to bluetooth speakers the audio stops. Music looks like it is trying to play as there is the animation next to the current track, but the time does not count up and no audio. If I play some other app like Spotify, it plays through the bluetooth speakers just fine. What is going on please?

Please do not repeat the previous answer to Mark's post, about checking updates and various Apple instructions about using HomeSharing. If you read Mark's question you can see he knows how to use HomeSharing and it works for him just fine. Exactly the same with my situation except it's between my studio MacBook Pro and my main MacBook Pro. So assume we're advanced users of the Mac and look beyond us using our Macs and HomeSharing correctly.

Everything works as it should until you try to listen via a bluetooth device. It looks like it's trying to play but nothing comes out the bluetooth speakers. This has been a problem for a long time and is probably a bug and is a particularly bad one because why shouldn't we expect to be able to listen to our HomeShared library via a bluetooth speaker?

Unless we've missed some obscure setting somewhere (the HomeSharing page on Apple doesn't even mention bluetooth), this must be a bug and acknowledgment of this fact would help us move on.

Thanks for trying turingtest2, but it doesn't make any difference where you select your bluetooth device. I just tried all three options and the result was the same. Weirdly, if a track is already playing through speakers and I drop either of the three menus (Mac Sound, Control Centre or Music Playback) and I click on a bluetooth device, the playback jumps three places forward in my playlist before looking like it's playing.

Also, just so you know, I understand that the Music playback menu is different in the sense that it's a choice between whatever the computer selected option is and available bluetooth devices. Changing the Music option doesn't change the computer option and vice versa and it doesn't matter which combination of settings there is between the two, the problem is still the same.
