i added Duck Duck Go and it took over my phone

DuckDuckGo is an app, a search engine, and perhaps some other things, so it's not clear to me what you added. If you set it as your default browser app, you can undo that change by following these instructions: Change your default apps for features on iPhone and iPad - Apple Support.

Settings > Apps > Default Apps

Among other apps, DuckDuckGo is a fine browser alternative to Safari. I use it once in a while. I use DuckDuckGo Search all the time though.

You can configure your iPhone to use DuckDuckGo as your default browser, your default Search Engine, or both.
