Why do I have to purchase iTunes Match or Apple Music to listen to CDs I already own??

I spent an entire week downloading all of my physical CDs onto my MacBook Pro. Never had any trouble playing my music. Now, unless it is music I actually bought through iTunes, NONE of my downloaded CDs, which I purchased myself, will play unless I get iTunes Match or Apple Music. I want to know how to fix this! I do not think it is fair that I have to purchase a subscription for something I already own! Please help!

Can you please post a screenshot of the error message that you're seeing? iTunes Match and Apple Music are both library syncing services that you can use to access your library (and with Apple Music, additional content) across multiple computers and devices. Neither are required to enjoy music with the Music app. If you have an iPhone/iPod/iPad this can be synced over a cable or wirelessly when on the same network without using either subscription service.

This started just a few days ago. I always use my library to access my music. I will attach a picture as soon as I can. Basically, I click on my Avengers Endgame soundtrack that I downloaded from my CD. I go to the list of songs. Click on a song and a little box pops up that says “You must have a subscription to ITunes Match or an Apple Music. I have restarted my computer and it’s current on updates. Just frustrated. It’s working fine on my iPhone 11 that connects to computer, as well my iPad.
