Settings app shows documents in excess of internal storage on M4 Mini

My issue is similar to what was reported here. External Storage is confusing Internal Ma… - Apple Community

except the documents is reporting as being 273gb, which is greater than the 256gb base level of the internal drive. It appears to only be the bar in the settings app. Disk Utility correctly shows current usage of the drive and the text above the bar has the correct usage.

If I log in as a different user, than the settings app will show correctly.

Settings app shows documents in excess of internal storage on M4 Mini: […] If I log in as a different user, than the settings app will show correctly

Seems to be a Bug in the macOS:

So, Try Updating Your Mac:

Back Up your Mac First:  Be certain you Create a Time Machine Backup of your Mac, so that way you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reconfiguration.

Report this to Apple:

Apple won't get back to you directly, but the more they hear of this, the more they'll know what to fix. So, provide your feedback. Apple will know nothing of your occurrence, if you don’t report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feature Type"
  3. Select: "Applications/Utilities" for the "Feedback Area"
  4. Proceed from there as Necessary
