Some apps won’t connect to internet after updating my iPad to iPadOS 17.7.5

I recently updated the iOS of my iPad to the 17.7.5 version.

Right after completing the update I realised several apps wouldn’t connect to the internet.

some apps that are still working fine, and connected to the WiFi of my home, are:

safari, google chrome, gmail, maps, Facebook,VSCO, tiktok, weibo, X, Instagram, books…

some apps that have trouble (at least the ones I just discovered so far) are:

google maps - it opens and shows my location. But when you try to type into the search bar, it throws a “cannot reach the server”.

youtube - big black screen with the usual youtube logo and some of the shortcuts, but nothing works. It only says “error loading - type to retry”

vk - same as youtube, big black screen, shortcuts, menus, but nothing works. The only difference is that the message says loading error.

Airbnb - it looks like it will start, but never does. Only a white screen that looks grey and shows a glimpse of the page design but never gives even an error message.

Booking.com - it opens, allows you to type a place and select dates, but then it freezes like Airbnb, only it’s black. No message at all.

Xiaohongshou - it opens in the same place as the day before the update, but throws a “Internet correction error” and can’t refresh or search for new contents or tags.

i checked if they needed updates, but according to the Apple Store they are just fine. They all say “open” instead of “update”.

i tried uninstalling and reinstalling youtube, to see if it would help. It didn’t.

I do not have a VPN. I never had one, so that is not causing the problem (and I mention this because I read some other old posts in which that aspect was heavily discussed).

I also tried the restart, the refreshing of the network, tried with the automatic date and time, with the privacy and no privacy address,… and I even tried with the router, although I’m pretty sure it’s not the problem, since the other apps are just fine.

So, can you help me getting back my bunch of apps? I miss them, and somehow this iPad just became quite annoying

(and sorry Apple, but every single time I have to update I end up having a lot of issues that take a long time to fix and this, sadly, is not the exception…)

If the problem persists, it may be necessary to fully reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

Otherwise, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to assist with troubleshooting:

If you have a VPN App or profiles installed, or a security/AV/firewall App such as Norton, these may be interfering with your iPad's network connection. If applicable, the resolution for connection issues is usually simple; where installed, you may need to temporarily disable or remove the Security App and/or VPN.

If some Apps are working as expected, while others are not - or other devices can connect to your WiFi network - you may find that a restart of your WiFi Router, followed by a restart of your iPad will clear the problem….

To restart your router, disconnect power from the router for at least 30 seconds - then reconnect power to restart. After your router reboots (which may take several minutes), force restart your iPad:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If you continue to have difficulties, check to see if your iPad is using the WiFi Private Address feature. This feature is intended to provide additional privacy and security when using “public” (untrusted) WiFi networks.

Settings > WiFi > [Your WiFi Network / SSID] - tap the “i” icon - Private Address

The Private Address feature is largely unnecessary for your home WiFi network; if enabled, Private Addressing can cause issues if specific MAC addresses are expected by your WiFi Router. You may need to disable this feature - and can be enabled or disabled for each individual network.

Well, as I said in my original post…

I don’t have a VPN. Never had one.

i already tried rebooting the network then restarting the iPad,

I already turned off the WiFi private address feature in both networks of the house.

i also tried the tricks I saw in similar posts I’ve seen before posting my problem.

So, I am still at the same point I was before trying all these stuff you mentioned.

Some apps work, some don’t.

Oh. A little difference: now I have to add Gmail to the list of apps not connecting to the network.

and…

I’ve been trying to reply to this comment for a couple days and the website always throws me a “your post could not be saved. Please try again in a few moments”. And in the end, it never did. I have to go and get my laptop to reply.

But… safari is still searching in the web with no problems at all. I checked.

any other ideas?

VPN was just one of the potential problems mentioned - and of those mentioned in my initial reply, other Apps may be using a VPN profile that are not immediately obvious.

Try a reset of your iPad's network settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset Network Settings
