Recovering iTunes playlists after migrating from Windows 10 to Windows 11 PC

Due to the impending end of support for Windows 10 I built a new Windows 11 PC. This is a new build so all apps are new and current. I had my iTunes library on a separate disk. On the Windows 11 box, I pointed the Apple Music App to the previously used disk. It wasn't until I installed the iTunes App and edited the library location that I saw the music. Oddly some of the album art was missing. I can live with that. My big headache is that none of my playlists show up on the PC. Where is that data stored and how can I recover it? My main playlist has about 300 songs that I am not anxious to recreate.

I am not using the Apple Music subscription.

The playlist still exists on my iPhone 14 pro.

I really wish that they didn't cripple iTunes.

Thanks in advance

Uninstall whichever of Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices you have installed. Apple Music cannot be directed to import an existing iTunes library. If one is present when it is first installed it will be converted, but after that there it isn't possible to obtain the playlists, ratings, plays, etc. or any other detail not captured in tags.

Install iTunes from this link:

See Move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Community for advice on moving your library from one computer to another and either complete the steps you've missed out or start over.

Directing either iTunes or Apple Music to a particular folder as the media folder does not discover the content that is there, nor does it change which library database is opened. Only iTunes has a feature for doing that, holding down shift as you launch it, and then clicking Choose Library...

iTunes is only crippled if you install Apple Music, TV or Devices. Remove them and it works properly again. Apple Music on Mac is just about acceptable, but on Windows it is still shockingly poor and omits too many useful features.

Thanks tt2 for the insight in how the infrastructure works. Unfortunately, that didn't resolve anything. 55 screen shots later I now have my playlist "Backed up". I saw in a different post how to print out the playlist titles. However, that functionality no longer exist in the iPhone Music app. Guess it's really time for a fresh start.

I've successfully migrated this library at least twice before under iTunes with zero issues. It's quite depressing how Apple has crippled and removed functionality from this software.

Thanks for the suggestion.
