How can I resolve error code -7005 when setting up Homepod mini?

Moved home and have factory reset my Homepod mini. Attempting to set it back up but keep running into the same error code (-7005). Would be great if error codes and their meanings were documented somewhere for people to find...

I've spent the last 2 days repeatedly trying to get this up and working. Help appreciated. Might end up in landfill..

Hey Andy. I just reread the resetting instructions of a HomePod. And this step troubles me all of a sudden:

  • Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac that's signed in with the Apple Account that you used to set up HomePod.

That's signed in with the Apple Account...used to set up HomePod.!

Does that mean the HomePod is looking for the very specific single iPhone, single iPad, or single Mac that was used to setup the HomePod?

So if I setup the HomePod with my old iPhone 11, and now I have an iPhone 15, I won't be able to setup the HomePod, or reset up the HomePod, with the 15. I need to use the iPhone 11 to set up the HomePod again?

That sounds like a terrible programming idea if true. If I were to guess I would say it's a security reason why they tie the HomePod to its original pairing device.

That is not clear when people hold onto their older Apple devices, and have newer devices, and time has passed so who remembers? Who remembers...

  • iPhone n did devices A, B, C
  • iPad m did devices D, F, G
  • Mac did device E
  • iPhone n+4 did device H but is having trouble setting up device A for some reason

I'm gonna test it as soon as the broken iPhone 11 is charged.

Stay tuned...

Hello Andy.

i am in the same boat as you.

The HomePod I have is close to becoming the HomeLandfill.

i have an iPhone15 Max Pro, and a TP-Link Deco M5 mesh router network in my home.

research that I’ve done everything tells me to make sure the other two network notes for the network are totally disabled, powered off (and they have been.) so now my mobile phone and the HomePod are definitely 100% on the same node and network.

Then after researching further, the community is saying QOS is a culprit and that if you disable QS on your network devices that you will be able to authenticate through to the end of the set up.

Unfortunately, not every network device by every vendor allows you to disable QOS, like mine.

And finally due to cost, I have had to downgrade my network download and upload speeds. Now the utilities in my network app do speed test and record the speed tests. I’m concerned, though that Apple develops products in a super super clean environment where the products always work 100%. That’s not reality though and that is where most of us customers get into trouble because we’re not wealthy like they are.

I don’t know what I’m gonna do about these HomePods that don’t work.
