Parental Restrictions and Screen Time

Hi,

We have 1:1 iPad at my school, with managed Apple IDs. Several parents have asked about enabling parental controls and screen time on their iPads. As far as I'm aware, since the pupils have Managed Apple IDs, they can't added to a family group, so therefore cannot have parental controls set up. Am I correct in thinking that? Is there another way around it? Many thanks in advance!

Jamf does have an option. It's called Jamf Parent. I've never used it, but I've seen others do so.

No, that is incorrect. Parental Controls can be set up directly on the device, Family Sharing is not required for this.

Settings ➜ Screen Time ➜ Content and Privacy Restrictions.

Unless your MDM is disabling Screen time, it should be perfectly possible to enable those from there directly on each device. This will be a task for each parent however, or the admin of the MDM to go into each iPad and enable the restrictions on it.

Family sharing just allows the restrictions to be set up remotely from the parent's device.

Hi Phil0124,

Many thanks for your reply. I should have mentioned it is greyed out in Settings, but I will take a look into the configuration settings in Jamf Pro and see if we can make it available.

That usually means your MDM is itself restricting it. Check the configuration to enable it.
