bon.elk 3in1 multi hub not connecting to monitor via HDMI

I am trying to use the following bon.elk connector https://www.bonelk.com/products/bonelk-long-life-3in1-multiport-hub-space-grey to set up a second display via USB-C to HDMI on a Samsung LS24GD 24" FHD 100Hz Curved Monitor.

Macbook Pro M3 chip 16GB (serial number DTH44PKVTD)

Should this automatically connect or is there software I need?

Basic checks

  • monitor is on and source set to HDMI
  • bon.elk hub correctly connected and blue light on (flashes at initial connection then goes to solid on)
  • monitor is not in stand-by mode

TIA for any help!

I have just worked this one out myself - the hub requires to be powered by a second USB-C input to work with a HDMI connection.

I find this quite annoying as means that I can only use it when I have a power point available for my laptop. Quite restrictive.

I am going to look into options for remote / bluetooth connection instead.
