hdmi adapter work for my macbook pro

Hi i'm having trouble with setting up my 2nd monitor. I've been trying to connect my monitor (Samsung LS24F350FHEXXP) to my macbook pro (2020 intel), so far i've tried the following:

  • cheap generic adapter -- this used to work for a while but has now become loose. any tiny movement and the connection gets lost

  • Moshi USB-C to HDMI Adapter (apple certified) -- this one works when I connect to the TV in our office, but when I try to connect to my home monitor, the monitor just turns all blue (it works for a few seconds then the screen just turns completely blue; if i unplug then plug, it works again for a few seconds then screen turns blue again)

  • Adam Elements Casa Hub (apple certified) -- this one works fine with my monitor, but had to return it since it was only borrowed from a friend

I have already tried resetting my NVRAM/PRAM and SMC, but i'm still having the same issues with both the generic adapter and Moshi. I also tried updating to Ventura but that also did not work.

Why does the Moshi one work only with certain monitors? The Adam Elements is over my budget so I'm considering other brand options, but I'd like to get an idea first why some adapters don't work, and which ones would. Thanks!

HDMI cables you want for HDMI-only Displays (higher resolutions than 720p TV sets) are marked as Certified with an anti-counterfeiting tag and are labeled:

"Premium High Speed HDMI cable" or that + "with Ethernet" --OR--

"Ultra High Speed HDMI cable" or that + "48G"

Cables with No Certification tags are good for your standard 720p TV set, and not much more.
