What to do when iPhone won't sync with iTunes?

Just installed itunes app (Apple music) onto a PC and all my library is there but when I connect the iphone, the phone icon doesn't appear on screen and so I'm not able to sync anything. I already have loads of music on the phone which was synced from my other older PC but phone doesn't show up on this other PC.

To be clear, iTunes is iTunes, and Apple Music for Windows is a different app that, if installed, limits the functions of iTunes so that it can only manage audiobooks and podcasts. If you use the Apple Music app then you also need to use the Apple Devices app to manage your devices.

I'd recommend you use iTunes rather than Apple Music. To use iTunes properly any of the new apps; Apple Music, Apple Devices, and Apple TV need to be removed first.

Using your device with a new computer is often a recipe for losing the media on the device. See Move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Community to copy the library from the old computer to the new one in such a way that you should be able to sync with it without wiping out what is already on the device.
