safari app not asking me where I would like to download files when "ask for each download" is checked in settings. When I have that item checked off it continues to automatically download files directly to my "Downloads" folder. This is happening on my Mac Studio, and Mac mini m1

I just tested this and have the same problem. I'd suggest you submit a bug report as I have.

It depends on how critical the problem is. If you suspect hardware as the problem, I'd contact support. But if you're having other issues similar to this one, this community is a great place to start.
Thanks Randall. I was on hold forever with apple support. I've actually noticed a lot of things and talking to support takes forever and they can create bigger problems that I have to clean up later such as having to delete unwanted accounts that they have me create on my Mac.
Is the best way to determine if there is an issue or bug to come here first rather than ask apple support?
