My iPad 6th gen won't connect to the internet after updating to iOS 17.7.5

I updated my ipad (6th gen) to the 17.7.5/the newest version that it showed for me to update to, and now it’s not working? It was charging and connected to WiFi the entire time, I tried shutting it down and turning it back on as well as restarting my WiFi router.

it’s saying I don’t have an internet connection/I’m offline when I’m connected to the WiFi and my phone is working perfectly on it, it won’t let me log into apps because of that, and some apps simply won’t work on my ipad but they’re working fine on my phone.

what do I do to fix this?

little clarification:

YouTube is working fine, videos are playing and it’s saying I’m online/connected to WiFi, but other apps like Spotify and Hulu are saying I’m offline when attempting to log in.

I'm having similar issues with my iPad Pro 2nd gen after installing IOS 17.7.5 Started the day after I insatller the update.

Wi-Fi keeps dropping every 10-20 minutes when streaming TV, issues with loading some apps & Safari can't load websites.

No issues with my iMac (Ventura 13.7.4) my Android phone or my daughter's iPhone. It's just my iPad.

Switching my router on & off, restarting iPad sometimes sorts it out for an evening, sometimes it doesn't.

Sometimes I see an error message 'unable to join the network "my wifi".

Sometimes I see the same message, also says "this network is operating on WiFi channels in use by several other nearby networks. Restarting your wireless router may allow it to automatically choose the best channels to use, & may resolve the problem" So I switch off the router & yes, it works for about 15-25 minutes, then it drops again.

Sometimes I see a message telling me I've put in an incorrect password (it's autosaved, so I haven't) then it briefly reconnects without me entering a different password, then id rops again. Sometimes my settings>WiFi show my WiFi name with a blue tick & the words no internet connection directly below it.

Forgetting the network then re-entering details makes no difference.

Last night I founnd the advicec to turn off Private Address feature - I did this & managed to stream a few hours of uninterrupted TV.

Today, after a few hours of being able to access websites & apps (didn't try streaming TV), it's back to behaving as if it's not connected - can't stream or load certain apps, safari can't access any websites, yet settings>WiFi tell me I'm connected, albeit with a privacy warning. iMac & Android phone are both connecting fine.

No VPN or other security ever installed. It's not in a case. Nothing else is connecting to my WiFi, no smart TV or any other devices, not usually doing anything other than using Safari on my iMac, & my phone is usually asleep.

I'm in an apartment block & Hyperoptic who supply the entire estate have been doing remote updates recently. Hyperoptic are also my ISP, but I can't get hold of an actual person, & their online troubleshooting insist its; a device issue.

Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance

Possible Fix

Within 15 minutes of posting my question, I finally got to speak to a person at Hyperoptic, who was very helpful.

She suggested splitting my WiFi into 2 separate connections - 2.4 & 5 Ghz. Seems I have a fussy device that doesn't like the combination. Took a few minutes for her to set that up, no need to restart anything at my end.

So I now have 2 available WiFi connections, same password, & although it's early days, this may work. Private address was automatically turned on for both connections. Fingers crossed.

WiFi/Internet connection difficulties are usually an indication that your device does not have a routable IP Address - your IP Address usually being assigned by DHCP. When problems occur, your iPad may only have a self-assigned link-local IP address that begins 169.254.x.x.

You can verify your DHCP-assigned IP Address from settings:

Settings > WiFi > [Your WiFi Network / SSID] - tap the blue “i” icon - [IPv4 Address] IP Address

If you have a VPN App or profiles installed, or a security/AV/firewall App such as Norton, these may be interfering with DHCP and preventing your device from obtaining a valid IP Address for the WiFi network to which you are attempting to connect. The resolution is usually simple; if installed, you may only need to temporarily disable or remove the Security App and/or VPN.

DHCP is frequently used to automatically obtain an IP Address. Until your iPad has a valid IP Address to connect to your network, you will not have an internet connection. Disabling or removing VPN and/or the offending security App should allow DHCP to operate normally - allowing connection to your network and the internet.

If this resolves your issue, the VPN and/or security App can be reinstated after the connectivity problem has been resolved.

If some Apps are working as expected, while others are not - or other devices can connect to your WiFi network - you may find that a restart of your WiFi Router, followed by a restart of your iPad will clear the problem….

To restart your router, disconnect power from the router for at least 30 seconds - then reconnect power to restart. After your router reboots (which may take several minutes), force restart your iPad:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If you continue to have difficulties, check to see if your iPad is using the WiFi Private Address feature. This feature is intended to provide additional privacy and security when using “public” (untrusted) WiFi networks.

Settings > WiFi > [Your WiFi Network / SSID] - tap the “i” icon - Private Address

The Private Address feature is largely unnecessary for your home WiFi network; if enabled, Private Addressing can cause issues if specific MAC addresses are expected by your WiFi Router. You may need to disable this feature - and can be enabled or disabled for each individual network.
