Making space on boot disk

System data is suddenly using 1.94 Tb on my 2 Tb boot disk. Running macos 12.7.6 on mac mini. I have tried everything I can find so far on the web, but the system data size hardly budges.

Huge System Data Hi, I've been using my MacBook Air for less than a year, and keep getting errors that the hard drive is almost full. There are very few files on my laptop, and when I check the system storage it says that 'System Data' is 169.09GB. Trying to find the source, it seems my user folder is 185.29GB, but the only large file in there is Parallels (38.58GB). The other files are all in the MBs. What is taking up all this space and how do I do something about it? This MacBook only has a 250GB SSD, so it's causing problems.

How can I effectively clear System Data on macOS? Hello, I have around 189GB of system data in my Macbook Air M1. I tried cleaning the cache files, deleted local snapshots, and updated the OS(currently it is Sequoia 15.2) but nothing worked out, the system data hasn't reduced much. Can anyone let me know any suggestions to clear it out as it is eating my entire disk space. Thank you! [Re-Titled by Moderator]

How much free space does Disk Utility show and does it show many Snapshots? I never look at System data because it is ambiguous and unreliable.

Thanks for replying. It shows 4.82 GB free, and one snapshot (145.6 MB).
