How can I restore missing music artwork on iMac?

I've got a new iMac and I've imported my songs into Music, but a lot of the artwork is missing.

On inspection, my music folder from the old iMac seems a bit of a mess; it's a mix of iTunes and Music sub folders dating back over many years. I've attached a finder screen shot.

I've asked Music to use Music/iTunes/iTunes Music as the Music Media folder location.

The artwork must be in there somewhere, yes? How do I import it into the Music app in new iMac.

All of my playlist also failed to import. That's less of an issue as they are easy to recreate; however, if anyone knows a quick fix for that, it would be a bonus.

Thanks

See Move your iTunes/Music library to a new computer - Apple Community. It sounds as if you have imported the media into a new empty library instead of opening your most recent iTunes or Music library which would preserve your playlists. What version of macOS were you running on the previous machine? From the look of things there was an update from iTunes to Music three years ago, however I'd expect to see a Music Library.musiclibrary package with a more recent modification date from the one I can see in Music 1.

A library consists of two main components, a database and a media folder. The iTunes database was a .itl (iTunes Library) file, for Music it is a .musiclibrary package (a custom folder that appears like it is a single file). In both cases there are additional support files but the thing you can choose to open is a .itl file or a .musiclibrary package. The database knows what has been added to the library, where to find it, and captures any of the data that isn't written to tags, such as rating, play & skip counts & dates, and playlist membership. If you import the media into an empty library all of this data will be missing.

You can search your computer for all files of the form .musiclibrary and see which is most recent.

As for cleaning up your old .itl files see Managing your Mac media libraries - Apple Community. But I would fix your library first and backup before doing housekeeping.

Thanks for the swift reply.

You are correct, I did imported the media into a new empty library.

In the linked article, you mention, "press and hold down shift (Win) or option (Mac) as you start iTunes to get the option to create or choose a new library, select choose, then browse to the folder that contains your library and select the iTunes Library.itl file inside".

Dumb question number one: is a library just another name for a folder that contains music files, or is a library and a folder containing music files two very separate things?

This leads to dumb question number two: is choosing a new library different from choosing a new Music Media folder?

My Music Library file is only 421 MB and is dated 2022. Hmmm.... the last time I imported into Music on the old iMac was last week!

I have numerous itl files called things like "iTunes Library 2011_07_25.itl" in my "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder, but I can't see a .itl file anywhere that is newer than 14 January 2022.

From your linked article, the .itl file and the library should be in the same folder, yes?

Thanks
