Why does 'calculating' never stop for storage availability on Mac mini?

Hi,

When I try to find out how much storage I have available, I go to System settings then storage.

I get shown how much used / available storage I have.

The window looks like this.

The little whirl things next to the word 'calculating' never stop.

Why is this? What can I do about it?

Poor design of System Settings -> General -> Storage UI Hi, On Ventura 13.3.1 (a) when I view System Settings -> General -> Storage there are some usage amounts that appear immediately and others that say "Calculating" with a spinner. So far so good. However...some of the usage amounts that have already been displayed then jump to a higher number. This is terrible for a number of reasons. First, I no longer trust the value, because it can change. Is it going to change again? How do I know if it is done? How long should I wait for it to stabilize? I recommend that the UI present "Calculating" with the spinner for every entry until it displays the final value, and once it displays the final value, *never* change the value again. If the UI is receiving input from the OS about changes in the value while the UI is open, an indicator that the data has been refreshed since the UI opened might be an alternative to a stale number. But *never* just change the number and expect someone to trust the value. Storage Recommendations Not Appearing In Storage - Ventrua Updated to Ventura last night on my MacBook Pro M1 Pro and noticed they have iOS'ed settings now, including Storage. When I go to Settings > General > Storage everything populates as it should, only the Storage Recommendations, such as Empty Trash can do not appear at all there as they should. Am I missing something?

Optimize Storage option not currently available Recently updated my macbook pro and the layout of the System Preferences has changed. When I go to my Storage settings, I also notice that my Optimize Storage option is not available. I've restarted my computer and checked for updates. I've also done a search for "Optimize" and nothing shows up. Ideas?

Many have reported this. I had the same and while it was not a big issue I finally erased my drive, reinstalled the OS and after migrating all back it fixed this issue. Also reduced the system storage size so a win/win.
