Battery drain and overheating issues on iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 18.3 update

Hi, community

i have istalled iOS18 many months ago. iPhone did indexing and overheating disappeared and all was ok.

5 days ago I installed 18.3 and now iPhone at least is warm from simple normal operations, like navigating the menu. And always has warmer than it was usual.

Safari or WA are making it much warmer.

and it really started with 18.3

and of course the battery is draining like a ****

while was writing this post - in 7 minutes it went from 100 to 97. (Battery capacity is 92%)

Do you have the same issue, what is the solution?

when is 18.3.1 expected?

This is a common concern after major updates, as new software can sometimes introduce bugs or require additional resources that strain the device. Here are some steps you can take to address the issue:

1. Check for Background Activity

About battery usage on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (AL)

2. Check for iOS 18.3.1

Apple typically releases minor updates within a few weeks of a major update. Keep an eye on Apple’s newsroom or your device’s software update page for announcements.

I had this experience when I installed 18.3.1 … suddenly the Apple TV app would cause my phone to overheat…sucked battery life to zero … no other video or audio app has that problem…any suggestions? I use the app every night to help me sleep so I can pinpoint the day the problem started and it was that day…I can’t use the app now…and the room the phone is in is 50 degrees …iPhone 13 pro…I play downloaded videos in airplane mode

Dear Apple Customer Support,

I am writing to report an overheating issue with my iPhone 13 Pro after updating to iOS 18.3.1. Since the update, my phone has been frequently overheating, even when I am not actively using it.

I have tried restarting the device several times, but the problem persists. I suspect that the iOS 18.3.1 update is the cause of this issue.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could investigate this matter urgently and provide a solution as soon as possible.

Thank you for your time and attention to this issue.

Sincerely,

[Shimul *****i]

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

Was/Is your device Jailbroken? If that's the situation, please be informed that attributing the issues to iOS updates may not be accurate.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

📱Facing iPhone heating issues? Here's what worked for me on my iPhone 12 Pro:

1️⃣ Backup on iCloud/iTunes

2️⃣ Log out of Apple ID

3️⃣ Erase (Keep eSIM Data)

❌ DO NOT restore from backups! Set up as new iPhone. Wait 2-3 days - no issue! That Indicates...

✅ No hardware/ iOS issue

Now...

📦 Restore data gradually

🔍 Find app/settings causing heat

My experience says this is purely caused by some third-party app that you may have installed.

I am not aware of the ambient temperature in which you are using the iPhone. However --> Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable ...

Store the device where the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don’t leave the device in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.

Use iOS devices where the ambient temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might cause the device to change its behavior to regulate its temperature. Using an iOS device in very cold conditions outside of its operating range might temporarily shorten battery life and could cause the device to turn off. Battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures. Using an iOS device in very hot conditions can permanently shorten battery life.
