Unable to turn off Wi-Fi on my iPhone 16 with iOS 18.3 update

I’m using Iphone 16 with iOS 18.3 and I experience the issue that I can’t turn off my wifi.

Even if I go to settings to turn the WiFi off through the toggle, it’s still not working. The toggle button is “stuck” and won’t move to “disable WiFi” position.

I also have an automation to turnoff wifi but still no luck.

It’s a personal device with only one profile on it, which is my personal (not work) profile.

The only fix to this is to restart the phone.

Anyone else having the same issue? Any ideas how to fix it permanently?

I have the exact same issue with wifi on my iPhone 16 pro max. Bluetooth works as expected.

Also shortcuts or automations are unable to disable wifi.

Even air-plane mode does not disable wifi.

Remove the profile and check again. If it is your 'personal' profile you can add it anytime.

When Airplane Mode is activated, any previous action of manually enabling the WiFi will consistently be replicated each time Airplane Mode is switched on. This means that if you've turned on the WiFi after activating Airplane Mode, that specific action will be repeated automatically whenever you toggle Airplane Mode on again. Essentially, the system remembers and reinstates the state of the WiFi that was set before entering Airplane Mode, ensuring that the WiFi behavior remains consistent whenever you use Airplane Mode.

This is true for Bluetooth too.

The above worked for me! Thank you

SrvanKraA as this had been an annoyance. My Apps set to WiFi only were continuously running while in Cellular only. I had no idea that WiFi was still active even while toggled off. This made my phone run hot as everything was running.

It’s fixed now:

  1. I personally didn’t need to ‘remove a profile.’
  2. I wanted my Apps that I set to WiFi only, to stop running when I had my phone to Cellular only.
  3. I first made sure WIFI was set to off. It was set to off, but I still toggled it on and then back off.
  4. I then turned on Airplane mode.
  5. I waited about a minute, and then turned Airplane mode off.
  6. I check settings. WiFi showed off as it had before but was not truly off.
  7. To test, I went directly to Apps that I have set to WiFi only. The ones that had been erroneously been working with WiFi turned off.
  8. I tested three different Apps and they are no longer working now when my WiFi is off. I received the proper messages:
  9. ‘Cellular’ options are not enabled for this App. Go by to settings to enable.
  10. Some simply said ‘No Cellular Connection is enabled’.

Again, thank you so much 😊

Dear MsTalkAlot,

thank you for helping. But the airplane mode does not disable wifi. It is simply not possible to disable wifi. That is the actual issue.

As the thread opener wrote, only after restarting the phone it is possible to disable wifi. And that lasts only for a while.

I suppose this is a bug in iOS 18.3 and we have to wait for a fix. 😒

Thanks!

Kind regards
