Hallmark Studio Greeting Card program not working on my iMac after updating to Sequoia 15.3

For years I have been using a Hallmark Studio greeting card program that worked very well.

I recently updated (upgraded) my iMac to Sequoia 15.3 and now the Hallmark program crashes.

I have checked with Hallmark and they admit to their program not working with Sequoia ( they are hoping for a patch in the future). So far I have been unable to find a greeting card program that I know will work on Sequoia. Has any one out there have a solution to this situation?

Check out Cardia from Addison Software in the App Store. It does not have a catalog of images but you can find any image you want on the internet and use that. It works with Mojave all the way to the latest Sequoia and is regularly updated. And it's only for Macintosh. No Windows nonsense.

So I just received a reply from Hallmark and they gave me the link to purchase the new version of Hallmark greeting cards for MAC. I have Sequoia 15.6.1. I will doownload it this evening and test it out. I have been using Cardia, and beside the fact that you have to create your own designs and wording it works fine. Once you have a a number of templates you should be good to go. I also realize that some people do not want to mess with tht (like my family members). I'll do a followup tomorrow or the next day. Reply is below

Cardia works, but it does not have any templates. Definitely not as polished as Hallmark but you can download graphics and insert text with no issues. You can build up your cards again if need be. So you have to start from scratch. I had to play around with it a bit but I got it to work. Theirs is a 100% MAC product and goes for about $30.

I did write to hallmark and here is their answer. I noticed they did not state they were working on a fix or update so I believe they have dropped MAC for now now at least.

Thank you for contacting Hallmark Software Technical Support.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Hallmark Card Studio for Mac v22 is not compatible with Mac OS Sequoia. It will only work with older versions of Mac OS.

If you have any further questions, please write back to us.

On the contrary, Swift Publisher is an excellent app for card design. It supports and has templates of all the Avery cards and also has a good collection of art for most occasions. Not premade cards but it's easy to add your own text.

Swift was written for Mac and has the look, feel and function of a modern Apple app. The only thing the Hallmark Card Studio has going for it is the premade cards, the Hallmark app is clumsy by today's standards being ported over from Windows and does not interface with any Mac product.

Having said that Hallmark is still a favorite but if you want an app that's more flexible and capable, try Swift Publisher.

I’m thinking of buying Swift Publisher 5. It’s in the Mac App Store, has good reviews, and gets regular updates. I found about this from users who were trying to find a substitute for The Print Shop, another old standby that is no longer for sales in the U.S. (now only available for educational systems) because of some legal issues. It also does greeting cards , invitations, etc. Many users swear by it. $20 in the Mac App Store.

Yeah, the Broderbund version is a nasty Windows port that doesn’t even look like a Mac program. I got bit too. Botton line? These outfits don’t consider macOS a major part of their business and support it only as an afterthought.

I saw a reference on one site to a program called "Cardia" (by Addison Software), on the Mac App Store.

Cardia ("Welcome Hallmark Orphans!") supposedly "works flawlessly with Sequoia", "is actively updated", and "was developed by Macintosh fanatics." The downside is that it is just a program for creating cards. It doesn't include any clip art or photos – you have to supply all of that.

Here's a link to the vendor's description.

Apparently an outfit called Red River, who sells blank cards, asked the developers if they could write something like this.

Disclaimer – I have no interest in either company, and haven't used the program. I just thought this information might be of interest to some people in this thread.

Another alternative is to use Avery Design and Print. It's free online and very capable especially if you use Avery products. I use it for CD & DVD labels as well as DVD boxes and file labeling.

If you choose Avery 3378 for example for cards they have a good assortment of card designs ready-made for many occasions, it's almost as good as Hallmark but you need to add your own personal text.

Go to Avery Design and Print. It can also save your work online in their cloud. Very handy.

Independent of any platform is also a plus.

Motif and Mimeo Photos are two apps that work within Photos to create greeting cards, photo books, etc. with your own photos. I have had good results and both are available in the App Store. The main differences are in the user interface, whichever one suits you.

However, if you're looking for pre-designed cards these apps may not meet your needs. Worth a look though.

You will also find predesigned templates in the Pages app which is included from Apple. Select New Document, Choose Template, and scroll down to Cards.

Adding to my previous post. I downloaded and installed Hallmark Card Studio for Mac v23. I am running Sequoia 15.6.1 and v22, nor v22 bonus would run on my Mac. v23 seems to be working fine, my wife plans on giving the app a workout later this week. Do be aware that when I downloaded from the webpage and it stated that it was compatible with Sequoia 15 and Tahoe 26, the webpage downloaded v22 bonus and NOT v23. I had to call the Hallmark support line (888-926-9871) and have them email me v23. It was a 17 minute conversation, but not a difficult one. Most of the time was spent verifying that I had purchased the download.
