Why is my Photos app crashing on iPhone 16 Pro Max?

Please read the following user tip and restate your question/problem in detail:

When does your Photos app crash? What are you doing when it crashes? It is with every photo you try to view or edit or just specific ones?

I'm not sure what you mean by reset-- did you reset to a completely blank phone and then recover from some backup?

Have you done a forced re-start?

This is different from simply powering off.

As to why, you didn't give us much information to work with. What happens just before it crashes? How does it crash? Are there errors messages? Are you using iCloud to sync your Photos Library? Are you using "Optimize Storage?"

Since Apple Intelligence has yet to provide mind reading capabilities, we could only make guesses. If it's about caches or leaking memory type things, the a forced re-start would help. If it's a corrupt file in the Photos Library, then it would help to know if your Photos Library has only pictures from your phone, or if you added pictures from websites or other sources.
