Can not use Remote Desktop to Remote into m1 max or m4

Hello,

I use remote desktop quite often from my windows machine, I used to remote into my intel mac mini when I needed a mac and it worked fine. I purchased the new m4 mac mini and I can not remote into it I always get

"Error code: 0x516"

I thought that was weird so I tried to remote into my macbook and got the same error.

Here is where it gets werid.

I can get into my mac mini using RealVNC

I have used remote desktop from my mac to get into my PC when I am elsewhere in my house for years, and I can access all my windows machines from my macbook pro and my m4 mac mini.

Has anyone else been able to accomplish this after having the issues I am having?

Mac mini, macOS 15.3

Once again, @hcsitas with a pointless reply and no reading comprehension. On my initial reply, reply 3, I stated that the mac mini is running the windows app, I will post photo's below.

The issue is getting INTO the mac mini, not out, as in the photos I will show that I can get into the computer I am trying to remote from into the mac mini

This photo shows me using the windows app on my mac mini m4

This photo shows me remoting into the windows pc, using the windows app, from my mac mini m4

This photo shows, that the windows app on a windows computer is for work or school , not personal

Shows another error I get trying to get into the mac mini 0x4 (mostly get) sometimes get the one I said above

Me remoting into my ubuntu NUC

Me remoting into my other pc

As you can see I can get out of my mac mini into the PC I am trying to remote in from, I can get into anything that doesn't have apple silicon from my PC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

That does not help one bit, the windows app is not being used on windows machines yet, and second, it works just the same as remote desktop.

I did not want to open this can of worms as I gave enough information above as to what the problem is, I guess me expecting someone to not just say, hey its called something new, is my fault.

More importantly, the windows app on windows currently is only for organizations such as schools or work

"Connect to your cloud resources with a work or school account"

This is what it tells you when you open the app on a windows machine

On my m1 max macbook pro it is still called remote desktop

I can remote into any windows pc / not my m4 mac mini

On my m4 mac mini I use the windows app

I can remote into any windows pc / not into my m1 max

OK, I can confirm it's not a Silicon issue - I tried it from my fully-updated Windows 11 laptop using RDP v10.2.4008.0 year 2020 which I downloaded just for this test, to connect to my Sequoia latest Intel mini 2018.

I get the exact same "cannot connect" message. That said, I see the following issues:

Here's what I would try: on your router, hard-assign the IP address from your old Intel Mac to your M4 Mac and test. If you need assistance regarding this, please post with details on your router and IP addresses of your old and new Mac. All IP addresses are private so that's not a consideration. Do not post MAC addresses please.

Apologies, there is an issue here at Apple Communities where posts get truncated on iPads and can only be viewed in full when in landscape mode. However it’s for the reader to guess there’s more to the post and tilt 90 degrees to read it fully. In your case I had no clue and responded with less than a half-read.

Let me walk over to my Mac and give it a fresh re-read. Hang in there.
