I am unable to find an actual distance for the mirroring or if there is a way to extend it. I have connected the mini to the iPhone but unless the iPhone is on my person it does not connect. I typically leave the phone in the bedroom, a room away on the wireless charging station. Thought this would be cool but what is the point of it if I have to have the phone on top of the system.

I don't believe Apple has published the distance they can be apart but they do need to near each other. Whether its a combination of Bluetooth and Wifi, I don't know, but I'd bet there are some parts of Bluetooth involved and that would require them to be close enough to each other to speak to each other. I guess the advantage is you can use your Mac screen to do things on your iPhone, which some people may find helpful.

This is the only support document I can find about iPhone mirroring. iPhone Mirroring: Use your iPhone from your Mac - Apple Support Nowhere does it mention a distance, but like lobsterghost1 said it uses wi-fi and Bluetooth and I believe it is low energy Bluetooth, so it would have to be closer. I just tested mine by moving it to different rooms here in the house. I estimate the furthest I got it away was about 25' and it still connected. Like anything in a home, it may have to do with construction and how that can block or interfere with wi-fi and Bluetooth. I have an iPhone 16 pro Max and a MacBook Air M3 on Sequoia 15.3. And like lobsterghost1 also said, I think it is more about not having to pick up the phone to do something, rather than a kind of replacement since the phone is in the other room.
I have mine right here on a stand by my MacBook. I just don't pick it up. If I need something from the phone, I click on Mirroring and see it on my Mac. I also have continuity setup so I can see iMessages on the Mac and don't need the phone for the codes either. I really like the way it works. If I have an app on the phone I need to use, instead of picking up the phone, I open Mirroring. You can plug the iPhone into the Mac if necessary to charge it too, instead of having it charge in the other room too.
The best part of the Mac is having my iMessage and Calls right here. I hate having the phone or digital watch on. My desk is already a mess with multiple laptops, monitors, headsets, keyboards and mice. Technology was supposed to make life easier, not force you to have multiple different devices for specific things.
Well, all I can say is see if you can get the phone a little closer. Try like I did and see if there is a spot you can put the phone that is still not next to you but close enough to connect. I was able to do that. You should be able to get it one room away. Good luck.
That makes sense. I try to keep the bugger out of my hands. I'll end up distracted by some thing. It would be nice to not having to walk back and forth when codes are sent.
