You are on a UNIX operating system so deleting a file marks it as dirty for the operating system to reclaim that storage for other allocated storage purposes. The timeframe for that reclamation could be immediate or delayed based on applications and drive usage.

Your sorted options for recovery:

  1. If you moved the file to Trash and did not empty the Trash, you single-click the Trash icon on the Dock and in the Finder Window that opens, right-click on the Pages document and select Put Back.
  2. If you are using Time Machine for regular backups, change your current Finder folder to the Downloads folder. Double-click the Time Machine application in your Applications folder. That will open a Time Machine browse window on the Downloads folder. You may need to retreat in time to locate the Pages document before its deletion then click on it and click Restore.
    1. Assumption: 1) you are using Time Machine, and 2) the document lived long enough for Time Machine to capture it in a backup.
  3. If you copied this file to another storage medium, or if you emailed it to another person, you can get it back from them in a follow-up email.

Failing the above steps, the file is gone and unrecoverable.
