Finger print ID is just not working
I have owned Mac products since 1982, starting with an Apple 2e, and the finger print id system with a Mac keyboard is the first time that I've had a satisfaction index of "0" on a scale of 1 to 10 with an Apple product.
The Mac Pro works a little better but on my new Mac Mini 2024 M4 sometimes the scanning process doesn't even complete its cycle.
I assume that it is the apple keyboard rather than the software because it worked flawlessly with all the iPhones that I've had (my iPhone 15 uses Face ID.)
I have tried:
1- multiple scans of the same finger.
2- multiple scans of 2 and 3 fingers (in case I have some flaws in one of them.)
That alone would not be as big an issue but the security system prompts me for a password every time I log into a website. So I am required to enter the Mac password 12 to 15 times per day. While it is not the end of the world, the user experience should be a lot smoother with a product manufactured by a leading technology company.
I can think of a couple of ways to solve this problem and deliver a better user experience:
1- Solving the scanning process (software fix?)
2- Replacing the keyboard if it is because of a keyboard malfunction.
3- Turning off Safari's feature that requests to reenter the computer password every time one logs into a website.
Most likely someone can think of better ways to solve this issue, and I'd appreciate hearing about other ideas.
Sincerely,
Julio
