How do I completely turn off an iPad?

how do I turn off the ipad completely as you would a laptop ?

You can easily shut-down (and power-off) your iPad from settings:

Settings > General > Shut Down


As an alternative, press-and-hold the top sleep/wake button. When the on-screen slide button appears, release the top button, then slide the button to fully power-off the iPad.



You should note that shutting-down the iPad will not, of itself, erase any usage history. To completely erase all usage information, the iPad must be fully reset - which will erase all user data from the iPad (which may not be something that you wish to do):

Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings
