Transferring metadata from PC based iTunes to a new Mac with Apple Music

Well, something's not working right here. When I try to transfer my music library from my old PC based iTunes to my new iMac with Apple Music, the metadata only transfers on about a third of them. I've read up a bit and it does indeed appear that the files where the metadata is missing are indeed WAV files. That's the reason why.

The fix appears to be to convert...on the PC...the affected files from WAV to AIFF or some other Apple format so that the metadata can be embedded into the file. However, I don't see a way to sort by file type in iTunes. And I really don't want to re-enter metadata for 900+ songs!

Is there a way around this? Please? Someone?

Many thanks!

See Move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Community. The split from Music to iTunes complicates things a little as the library format of iTunes for Windows may not always be compatible with Music, but I tried this recently and was surprised to find that the current macOS 15.x version of Music was able to convert an iTunes 12.13.4.4 library. Moving the library database this way, rather than importing the media into an empty library, means that all the metadata stored in the library for .wav files is preserved, along with ratings, play counts, playlist membership, and other details for everything else that would otherwise get lost.

You can use the Songs view and sort by Kind should you still want/need to. Apple Lossless is probably the best format for holding lossless files complete with a proper tag that holds metadata if you want to ensure that copied files work correctly in a different computer. Creating new copies won't necessarily bring over ratings, plays or playlist membership so it isn't quite as simple as making new versions of your .wav tracks. The workaround for that might be my DeDuper script - see Duplicate songs in iTunes - Apple Community - but you still need the approach above to carry all of this data over to the Mac. Or a subscription to the Apple Music service.
