Control Center option in settings is grayed out on my iPhone

My iPhone is on IOS 17.7 and just a few days ago I noticed that I could no longer swipe down from the upper right corner of the lock screen to adjust brightness, volume, calculator, etc. Nothing happens when I swipe down. I have not upgraded recently and made no other changes to my phone in weeks.

I did research and found that you go to Settings, then Face ID and Passcode, scroll down to Allow Access When Locked and see if Control Center is toggled On. Both it and the Notification Center options are grayed out, I can't even toggle them on or off. Other options I can toggle.

I did more research, found I should check Screentime, Content & Privacy Restrictions (I am adult and have even needed to go to this part of settings). It's not enabled and every option is set to Allow.

What else is going on? I've done a hard reboot several times. I don't really want to upgrade IOS just to fix this - what changed from a few days ago anyway?

Why wouldn’t you want to update your iOS, what’s the harm? I suggest you should update to the latest iOS 18.3, as updates provide the latest bug fixes, which may just fix this issue of yours. If you never update, your issue just may never get fixed.

OK, I ran the IOS update to 18.3 and still had the same issue... So, I went back to Settings, ScreenTime, Content & Privacy Restrictions and then Device Management and discovered the culprit.

This is a iPhone 12 Mini assigned to me years ago by my company and I've never had restrictions - all of sudden, I now see a long list of Restrictions, including Notifications on Lock Screen and Control Center on Lock Screen not allowed. I'm gobsmacked, as it's never been restricted in 12 years of being assigned iPhones for work! I can't even pair with my Mac/iTunes anymore.

It might be time for me to get my own personal phone, I guess... thanks for all the advice!

I never thought of that, but it does make sense now. Your iPhone has a mobile device management profile with restrictions which was setup by your old employer’s IT administration. They also have access to all your iPhone and its data. You should try reaching back out to them to remove it as they never properly did. Otherwise, you may want a new personal iPhone.
