Hi StuartDMT : Re: Ripping CDs from SuperDrive to MBP M4 Very Slow
We likely all have different ways of working that suit our needs.
You can just drag and drop the files quickly to a unique folder outside Apple Music, if you want. However they will all be separate files to play, and may have filenames (eg: like numbers) that don't identify the track (or Album). This suits me fine as I can make a playlist later, and / or put a "readMe" text file, and / or copy of playlist into the folder of tracks. This may not suit everyone though.
Note: Files will be in their original format (generally not .mp3 ... maybe ..aiff or .wav so will take more space on Mac, yet that original quality is just great for listening to using QuickTime or a media-player (eg :like VLC etc.)
To drag and drop : double click the CD album icon on the desktop to open the folder and see the files.
Create and open a new folder (eg: on the desktop) that you want files saved to (name it to identify Album)
Select several files and drag this bunch of files between the two folders, and wait awhile to see the transfer complete. Experiment to see how many files you don't mind waiting for in each bunch. (or do singly if you want ... entirely up to you)

Re :"I'm using an Apple SuperDrive to rip my CD collection to Apple Music on my MBP M4 Pro and it is taking a long time : An average CD is taking up to an hour to go from source to my computer.
Any explanation, ideas, or information will be greatly appreciated."
Am no expert, and am keeping files in original format outside Apple Music. :
Would expect that each track is being converted to mp3 and likely catalogued, and stored in a retrievable library system in order to make access easy on demand. Album info. (eg. cover .. track names, duration etc.is likely searched for and downloaded. All fine if you need and use it all, but takes time

Re: " ... the process pauses when the screen goes to sleep."
You can use the settings to prolong (or even stop) sleep if you wish: (Screen Saver best set to shorter duration than sleep if you want to see it) ( Remember you may want to adjust settings again after using the SuperDrive. )
See how to: Set sleep and wake settings for your Mac - Apple Support
and
Change Screen Saver settings on Mac - Apple Support
All the best :-)
