Mac Mini M4 Pro memory for Lightroom & Photoshop

I'm considering moving from Windows to the Apple Mac Mini M4 Pro. Is anyone able to advise on the best specs to order - preferably someone who handles the sizes of files that I do in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop!

I typically have 70-80MB raw files, 300-500MB tiff conversions, and often 2-3GB layered tiffs from photoshop. I also do the usual catalogue stuff with up to 20,000 images.

I am thinking the Pro version of the M4 mini would be best with the faster 14-core processor and 1TB of system storage. I am less sure whether to buy 48 or 64GB of system memory. There is a large price difference.

Any advice would be most welcomed!

Windows, Windows 11 (26100)

My experience with those two apps in the past, especially if both are open at the same time, buy as much RAM as you can possibly afford!

I have had sessions where those two apps can quickly gobble up 16 GB or more in a short session and I was not even working with massive files.

One prime reason to max out the RAM is to avoid disk swapping. With something like the MacMini Pro, the tight integration of the SSD and unified memory and the speed will not really show that much of a slowdown when it takes place. The downside is that it will add wear to the SSD.

The other reason for getting as much RAM as you can afford at purchase is that you cannot upgrade the RAM after purchase as it is integrated on the "M" series chips.

I would suggest you get as much memory as your budget allows. It can't be expanded later, and high-end graphics software generally prefers lots of RAM for best performance. If budget is tight, you can cut down the size of the internal storage (though I would not recommend less than 512GB) since you can always use an external drive for more document space and that's usually less expensive per-gigabyte than Apple's internal storage pricing.

Regards.
