iPadOS 15.8.3 failed to add Home after HomeKit upgrade

Hello everyone,

I recently updated my Home architecture in the Apple Home app on my iPhone (iOS 18.2.1) following the app's recommendation. After the update, my old iPad (iPadOS 15.8.3) is no longer able to access my home. When I open the Home app on my iPad, I get the following error message:

"iPad can no longer view this home. This home requires software that is not compatible with this iPad."

I thought that creating a new home on my iPad might allow me to use HomeKit with it again. However, when I try to create a new home, after entering any name, I get another error message:

"Failed to Add Home [Home Name]"

Is there any way to fix this? Can I still use HomeKit on my iPad with a newly created home (on the old architecture) and control it from my iPhone with the latest iOS?

Any suggestions or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

The home app will no longer work on your iPad because the older software on iPadOS 15 doesn’t support the new Home architecture

“Any device that is connected to an upgraded home and not running the latest software will lose access to the home until the device is updated. This includes people that you invite to control your home”

Also iPad (any model) is not supported as a home hub on the new Home architecture. It likely mentioned this prior to upgrading that older devices would no longer work. I’m sorry but there is no fix to get your iPad to use the Home App as this iPad model can’t run any OS later that OS 15.
