Yes the case is legit. An email soliciting banking information is not. That email could have come from any of thousands of scammers. Now that people are posting that the email is legit, expect to receive many more emails (from scammers) soliciting banking information.

The checkbook.io electronic check is legitimate. I confirmed legitimacy from two Primary resources Checkbook.io and Apple support) and have initiated the payment to my bank account.

Did all my homework and on Saturday I deposited the e-check into my account and immediately it showed PENDING. By Tuesday, the check was safely in my account. 3 days and zero issues whatsoever. The checks are real.

Yes, we know the case is legitimate, what we’re all concerned about is the “check” email! Look into what financial institutions like Experian say about providing your bank account number and routing info. Not providing your PIN isn’t going to help you….

I just clicked on the link and it shows the check made out to just "Mark M" NO legit payment from a court settlement would just use the Initial of my last name. It would have my complete last name. Mark M is the way my emails go out. So it seems like a scam to me.

So I took this info to my bank and asked their opinion. They looked at the email, the email address, checkbook.io, the lawsuit, the phone number, and they believe the digital check is legitimate and fine to deposit.

I'll wait a couple of days before doing so, but they seem to think it's safe.

Not a scam. I received a postcard sometime last year. Googled to verify if there was such a lawsuit. There was so I mailed the postcard back with the info. Received the $200 lawsuit payment today 2/1/25

I don’t think they automatically sent them out. You had to send back the postcard or sign up on the lawsuit’s website in order to qualify.

I received a direct deposit in the amount of $200 on 1/29/25 from this settlement. It is legit. Wasn’t even expecting it!

It’s legit. A day after making my deposit it cleared.

I haven't heard of such a transactional way to do this before, but as noted in this topic by LAKingsFan22.

I chose electronic check when I put in for my payment. That’s what they sent.

So, the email is exactly what the user requested as the settlement payment. An electronic check. Not a physical paper one.

Should a person be careful here? Of course. But not every single thing that happens is automatically fraud.

In this case the checkbook.io electronic check is legitimate. I had conformation from two 1st party resources.

Looks suspicious,,,Especially when the return email ends in XXX@XXX.IO which is British Indian Ocean Territory. I'm requesting a paper check. I never give my banking info on the internet.

I followed the steps and I received my payment in probably two days. This is absolutely legitimate although it looks weird. I sent the money to my cash app account just to be safe and it was deposited and it is legitimate deposit.

I got it too and at first I sent it to spam but then I researched and it seemed legit. So far it’s been three days- the money hit my account and the rest of my money is still there. I have identity protection and nothing got flagged so it seems legit!

I also received this email. I trashed the first one but then did some research here when I received the same email as a reminder. I decided to take a chance. I clicked deposit. All good over the weekend and now Tues and the $200 is in my account and has not been removed. All is good. It was a real scary thing to do.
