I'm getting frequent notifications from a thread that no longer interests me. It has about 40,000 comments so far. How do I stop the notifications for that thread only?

For a single thread, see if the "bell" icon in the offending thread is blue or white:
If blue, click to make it white.
Better for me is to limit all such notifications if you come here a lot. Click your avatar in the upper right of any forum page and select "Preferences."
Scroll down the resulting page to this section:
For me, unchecking the first two boxes stops thread-specific messages without stopping ones I wish to see.
After you've hit the bell it's best to refresh the page to make sure it's really unsubscribed. If not then keep hitting the bell and refreshing until it's clear. It's a feature of these boards that some threads need to be unsubscribed from more than once.
Hi Allan — and thanks very much. The screenshots are excellent, by the way. So often I struggle with someone’s well intended instructions that would be so much clearer with screenshots. Apple itself could up its game in this regard😉
Thanks for the tip, Zurarczurx. In this case I didn't refresh but clicking the bell seems to have worked. The thread in question has disappeared as a subscription. Regardless, next time I'll be sure to do a refresh.
