Cannot access music library on Xbox

I cannot access my purchased music on my xbox through the music app. I pay for itunes match as I have a large library of music, which I can access on my other devices with no issues. When it comes to the xbox app however, I can't even access my library of purchased music without paying for an apple music subscription.

I spoke to Apple and they stated "Syncing library requires an apple music subscription" - to which i replied "it required an apple music subscription OR an itunes match subscription, as stated here Use Sync Library with your Apple Music subscription - Apple Support"

I think the issue is more to do with the xbox app needing an update, but does anyone have any other information that would help me here?

I have a phone call scheduled with Apple soon, hopefully they are able to help (though I won't get my hopes up).

Apple claim the information provided by Xbox is true. "Since only Apple Music is integrated by the Xbox this means that an Apple Music subscription is really needed to access your iTunes Match Library. Currently there are no direct integration with Xbox and iTunes match. Only Xbox and Apple Music"

I then received a link to send them feedback Feedback - Apple Music - Apple

In a nutshell access to your library of music (including music purchased on the iTunes store) is "not yet avaliable".

I asked "So Apple are basically saying to access that album that you bought for £12, you need to pay £10.99 a month to actually listen to it, yes?"

Reply from Apple "On devices other than iPhone, iPad, Mac or PC, yes."

Wow.

Microsoft/Xbox returned with... Apple Music's policy is that the free access to your library on the app is only available if you have an active Apple Music subscription.

Apple's policy requires an active Apple Music subscription to access the full library through the Apple Music app on consoles.

In contrast, the Apple TV app allows users to access their purchased movies and TV shows without an Apple TV+ subscription. This difference arises because the Apple TV app and Apple Music app are separate services with distinct access requirements. While the Apple TV app provides access to purchased content without a subscription, the Apple Music app requires an active subscription to access the full music library

Since the issue also involves Apple Music, it might be useful to follow up with Apple Support for clarification on the integration or any possible changes to their service for console users. Particularly if all other apps on the console works fine, Microsoft don’t particularly have an access on Apple's tools to make change with it.

Back to Apple we go.
