Why won’t iPhone charger work with iphone

My iPhone cable won’t plug into my iPhone for some reason.

Does this mean that plug will not physically fit into the port on the phone and the battery is not charging, or does this means that the plug will fit into the port OK, but the battery is not charging?

First question......have you tried another cable? Does it do the same thing?

The cable will plug into the port on your iPhone unless the port has been damaged or there is too much dirt and lint in the port to allow the plug to connect correctly.

Use a wooden or plastic toothpick to very carefully clean out the port. It will help if you have a flashlight handy. If no luck and you have tested with a second cable as well, the phone will need service at the Apple Store or authorized Apple service shop.

If the existing cable will not even fit into the port, the port has been physically damaged and repairs will be required at the Apple Store or an authorized Apple service shop. In this case, another cable will also not fit into the port if you try to test that way.
