Is there a way to stay on the number or symbol keyboards after a space?

When typing a symbol, number, or any kind of punctuation, for example date and time, such as "1/24 - 6:00pm" pressing spacebar after that symbol/number will automatically switch back to the letters keyboard. Is there a way to prevent this automatic toggle? It can be quite tedious when entering several dates in a list.
