US and Foreign SIM simultaneously

Can I get a French ESIM card and use my iPhone 14 Pro to make and receive calls with both my US and my (new) French numbers? Can I toggle between the two as necessary?

I would rather not subscribe to a French provider but instead get a rechargeable ESIM since I won't be using it much. Can that work?

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 18

So long as the iPhone is not carrier locked, any SIM or eSIM pairing should work.

US iPhone 14 Pro supports two active eSIMs, and eight or more inactive eSIMs.

About eSIM - Apple Support

(Your phrasing about mixing carriers is a little unclear. The SIM or eSIM is inherently associated with the telephone number, so — for instance — a French eSIM isn’t going to provide any minutes for any cellular activities related to a US cellular carrier. You can — on a limited basis — forward calls to other numbers, but carrier-determined excessive use of call forwarding can cause a cellular plan to be terminated.)

Thank you. I would be paying for the data usage of a rechargeable French eSIM (and that assigned number) and continuing my ATT contract to cover the usage of my US-based line. Based on your answer I presume that would work?

Yes, that should work, again assuming your iPhone is not carrier locked.

I’d usually keep the US eSIM switched off, until and unless I needed it.
