In Settings > Face ID and Passcode > Stolen Device Protection, when you are prompted with the Face ID, don’t do it and keep tapping try again. After a few attempts, it will prompt you with entering your passcode. Thus starting the 1 hour delay to turn off Stolen Device Protection.

Exactly same problem here, cannot reset Face ID as stolen phone is on and can’t be turned off without Face ID even though it will fail Face ID a few times and give passcode option, but passcode will not turn it off. Need to reset phone and pull a back up but can’t wipe phone as can’t sign out of iTunes without Face ID.

Needs a force reset and use a iCloud back up, then you can reset Face ID. Firstly just make sure it isn’t a screen protector cracked or dirty over the front camera, we’re back Ok again now after a load of hassle from what appeared to be an IOS update Hmm mmm m!!!!!! You just don’t get everyone’s front camera suddenly failing! Must be apple after some more cash on fixing this error by taking phones into apple stores.

Go to icloud.com/find > Select your iPhone > Remove from Account. This will remove Find My and thus Stolen Device Protection. You can then turn Find My back on after, and SDP will remain off.
