iPhone 16 Apps Randomly Crash With No Clear Explanation
I've noticed two times within the last month that a couple of apps on my iPhone randomly decide to crash whenever I try to use them. The first instance I remember of this occurring was about a month ago when my camera app and settings app crashed whenever I tried opening them. This also happened again yesterday when I tried using the TikTok app; the app would load initially, but some of the videos were just black screens, and after I scrolled for a few seconds, the app would crash. This was also the case with the Snapchat app; whenever I would open the camera on snapchat, a small error would pop up at the top of the screen and the app would crash moments later. Once I noticed this the first time a month ago, I restarted my phone and this fixed the issue until it reappeared yesterday. I restarted my phone again yesterday and the issue had again disappeared, but the fact that this has now happened twice is a bit concerning.
Mind you, I currently have the iPhone 16 base model running with the latest software 18.2.1. When this occurs, most apps seem to be unaffected and work fine while only a couple seem to be affected (at least that I've noticed). Whats puzzling is that there does not seem to be any rhyme, reason or commonality that would explain why certain apps start crashing; the apps are completely random. Some of the apps are developed by Apple (settings and camera) while others are third party (TikTok and Snapchat), some have access to the camera while others do not, and the affected apps vary between incidents. Very odd. I initially brushed the first incident off as a software glitch, but this happening twice now makes me think theres something legitimately wrong with my phone. I can confidently say that this is not an issue with the individual apps or wifi and is instead an issue with the phone itself, either software or hardware related. This never happened to me on my iPhone 13, so its very frustrating that this is happening on a newer iPhone on newer software. Maybe it's a virus, or maybe it's just Apple continuing to regress in their product quality. Who knows. Overall, I've had a very glitchy/buggy experience with iOS 18 and the iPhone 16, but thats a topic for a different discussion. Very disappointed with the direction Apple is going. I wanted to put this out there and see if anyone else has had any similar experiences.
