Can't select a volume to recover my password on MacBook

I’m unable to select a volume to recover when trying to reset password. I tried running disk utility and ran “fix disk” but it doesn’t seem to do much to connect the problem.

Is it possible to recover a missing start-up volume without erasing it? My wife found that her 2016 MacBook Air (Monterey, Intel) laptop would no longer accept her login password. She tried selecting the "reset using Apple ID" option, and it restarted to the Recovery Assistant, which said "Password reset complete" (without her having to supply a new password), but also said "Your Mac has no volumes to recover." All of the support documents suggest starting Disk Utility to check the start-up volume, but if your Mac has no volumes to recover, the Recovery Assistant doesn't even show a list of utilities. She's tried resetting PRAM, to no avail. She can get back to the login window again, but is still trapped in this loop. Is there a way to recover the start-up volume short of erasing it, when Recovery Assistant doesn't recognize there is a volume?

Password Reset Fails I can't remember my password to my Macbook Air so I've trying to reset my password. I keep getting the error "Reset Password Failed. There are no users on this volume to recover."

Newly formated, Password-Protected Disk Will not Mount after I forgot password I reformatted a new external hard drive, and made it password protected -- APFS (encrypted) -- If I recall correctly. I did this using a 2017 Macbook Air with an up-to-date OS. Then I forgot the password. I exceeded the maximum number of tries. Now the external HD does not mount. I also traded in the 2017, for a new 2021 M1 Pro, running the same OS. The disk is a Toshiba DTCA40 - 4 TB purchased in August, 2022. It has not been mistreated in any way. Is there a connection between forgetting a password, and the disk not mounting? and or upgrading the computer hardware? How can I make the disk discoverable on my laptop, and how can I reset the password without erasing the contents of the disk? Inquiring minds want to know.

Back up a few steps and describe how you got to that point. Please start from the beginning; in other words explain the need to reset a password.

If for whatever reason you did not start by following these instructions, start over again: If you forgot your Mac login password - Apple Support. There are many steps.

If you cant find your disk here , go too recovery mode and from their open utilities folder.

Then open terminal and reset the password .
