That is correct. Those apps that run on iPhone will be available for you to download there.

Check your iPad and iPhone settings:

Settings > Apps > App Store > Automatic Downloads* >

• App Downloads - set to ON
• App Updates - set to ON

(*) This settings path is for iOS/iPadOS 18.x; the path to App Store settings differs for earlier versions.

You should note that not all Apps are available for both iPad and iPhone. For Apps that are available for both device types, if the Automatic Download settings are enabled, purchasing/installing an App on one device will result in automatic download/install to the other.

Times have changed; and the devices have become MUCH more complex and specialized than in the “earlier days”…

… and we now have iOS and iPadOS.
