Syncing with iCloud Paused - Mac Needs to Cool Down

Syncing with iCloud Paused - Mac Needs to Cool Down

After upgrading OS's I continue to get the message when trying to view latest photos "Syncing with iCloud Paused - Mac Needs to Cool Down" even though it is NOT running hot, there are little to know apps, processes running that would even cause this issue. Only solution seems to be reboot or revisit Photos from my desktop another day (or view on my phone or iPad). I upgraded to Sequoia and it resolved the issue, but now it's back again. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!! Apple get you act together and resolve this issue. Stop making it difficult to use your equipment just to push people to upgrade when it's not needed.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 15.2

Given that thousands of people are not reporting this issue, it seems more likely that this is a local problem rather than a systemic on that Apple needs to, or even can, fix. Further, you're offered updates and upgrades, they're not pushed on you and you can simply not install them.

When you get this message can you tell us what is going in Activity Monitor (it's in your Application/Utilities folder), what's at the top of the list? is there anything in red?

We are not Apple; folks who read these posts are just users like you. Some of us hang around here from time to time in case our experience may help someone. We don't get paid and we don't have a schedule, and the Apple engineers don’t read the stuff, here. Leaving an angry post won't encourage people here like Yer_Man to offer any help.

You say that you have only a few apps-- have you used any of those "cleaning" apps that supposedly clear up your problems but often just cause more?

Before coming here to yell with all caps at people who just try to help, did you do any of these things to narrow things down?

  • Restart the computer (of course)
  • Re-start in Safe Mode. This bypasses certain potentially disruptive processes, and it often helps. Safe Mode is different for different computers, so see this:

Those are the easiest things to try first. Then try these:

  • Use another library if you have one, or make a small test Library with a few pictures in it and see if the same thing happens. You can create a new Library by closing Photos and then option-clicking on the Photos icon.
  • Make a new user and see if the same problem recurs with it
  • Rebuild your Photos Library--close Photos and re-launch by option-command-clicking the app icon.

The idea is to find out if the problem is with the Library, with your account, or with caches and login items, and stuff like that. One of these steps may fix the problem, but their failure to work also helps figure out what's happening.
