Now running a new Mac Mini with the M4 chip.
However, when I respond to an email in Apple mail, the first thing that happens is that images are deleted.
I want to keep the images.
Is there a setting I'm missing? Where is it?
Major props to the first response that successfully resolves this.

OK, here's the answer. And you certainly don't have to reinstall the OS.
There IS a setting in Apple Mail. It's under Edit.
And you have to check: ALWAYS INCLUDE ATTACHMENTS.
And THAT will solve the issue.

Yes, I read that.
HOWEVER, the instant I click reply or use the reply icon in the message header, the image is converted to
<png> or <jpg>
So the "include attachments" option is instantly and effectively voided.
What the heck is going on?
What I'm saying is: When I use the reply button or command-R in my "upgraded" email, the images in the email disappear. I see only <jpg> I want to KEEP those images when I reply.
And yes, I'm familiar with the dropdown menu. But it's no help when the images instantly disappear.
That's bizarre. I've updated from Sequoia 15.0 to Sequoia 15.2, and the same issue persists.
I know how to reinstall the software, but that also seems like a PITA.

Not sure I follow you - png and jpg are both image formats. There's a dropdown button on the upper right where you can choose image size including original.
