Backtrack and Waypoint buttons in Compass app not showing on my Apple Watch

I have watch OS 11.2 and have no profiles installed, no screen time restrictions and I have location services and significant locations enabled for the compass app.

I am wondering if the waypoint and backtrack buttons only show on the screen in the compass app when I am not in a significant location. Also when there is no gps or cellular service.
