Google Meet links do not work on iphone, stuck in app store.

It used to work, but since iOS 18 came along, i can no longer open links to meetings in Google Meet. My calendar is useless for joining meetings - and when colleagues send links on email or Messages, the links all lead to the same dead-end. They open safari, then they bounce me to the App Store, then i touch "open" and the app just opens but does not go to the link. Previously, links directly opened the app and went to the call. what happened?
