iPhone 16 plus loose charging port

I just purchased the iPhone 16 plus on Saturday Jan 11th and noticed last night (Sunday jun 12th) that when plugging in the usb-c charging cable that it was wiggly. It was fully plugged in. I thought since I was using my iPad Air cord maybe that was the issue so I opened up the new cord that came with my phone and it was still wiggly. It charges fine! My question is, is this a known issue? If so it would be covered under the manufacturer warranty, yes? Is this something I should take back to the Apple Store right away or wait for it to actually cause the phone not to charge?

If it’s new and in the return period then for peace of mind take it back and exchange it. If you wait beyond that period you will have to wait for an actual charging issue to occur before Apple will or can replace it. It sounds like you are saying there isn’t an issue with charging right now so if you went to Apple today (assuming it was beyond the return period) you very likely wouldn’t get a replacement because no actual failure is occurring (they COULD replace it of course but they wouldn’t be required to so it would really depend on the agent helping at that moment).

If there is nothing functionally wrong (it’s not hindering charging) then there is nothing to fix. But like you have already been told…you are within the return/exchange period. Exchange it for a new one while you can. Beyond that time period your only option would be a warranty repair/replacement BUT if it is not having issues charging then it very likely won’t be repaired/replaced because it is not broken. Warranty repairs are for covered issues affecting functionality. The cord being wiggly but not affecting charging is not broken and does not mean that it will become a problem in the future. But if it concerns you even a little I would suggest taking advantage of the return/exchange period.

Not to mention…you don’t know if the port is loose or if the cable connector (on the cord) just has some wiggle room. You never said the port was loose (and if it actually is loose you would definitely have some charging issues occurring now). Point is…take advantage of the window to get a new device or your remedy if they need to repair it would be either a repair on your device or a replacement with a refurbished one regardless of how long you owned it. Say you owned it for 20 days and they need to replace it. You will get a refurbished one. That is stated in the warranty terms but a lot of people get upset thinking they should receive a brand new one

You asked if it was “normal”. I just checked my 16 Pro Max that I have owned since launch…yes it has some wiggle. No, no issues with charging. Checked a 15 and 15 Pro Max in the house (both over a year old) and they too wiggle a little. No charging issues. So it could be “normal”. But once again…if I noticed it early like you and it made me uncomfortable I would have had it exchanged with a new one for peace of mind. Worse case scenario would have been getting a brand new one and seeing it did the same thing. No real harm other than I guess having to set up the new phone again but that usually isn’t that big of a deal if you’re setting up your device using a backup.
