spaces between lines vs spaces between paragraphs.

I have made a file in BB Edit that lets me take a long Chinese text, divide it into equal-length lines, and number the lines. (I am trying to make something like a concordance.) Because BB Edit puts a CR at the end of each line, when I copy this file into Pages, each two lines have a big gap between them. There appears to be no way to reduce the size of this gap.

I want it to look like

line one

line two

Instead of

line one

line two.

There is no way to set "space between paragraphs" to some fractional value less than one.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

The interline spacing is controlled by the selector under Spacing and an integer or decimal value can be assigned if you apply the arrows adjacent to that value.

Although the After Paragraph values default to integer, even when incrementing them with the arrows, one can single-click behind that integer and enter decimal values (e.g. 2 becomes 2.5 pt).

At least, this is how it works in Pages v14.3 on Sequoia v15.2. I no longer have Ventura installed to test an older version of Pages on it.

Thanks. I have Pages 13.1 I don't see any arrows. But never mind, I found a way that is more likely to survive saving the resulting document to PDF, etc.

Copy the file into Text Edit. Chose to save the file in "classic Mac CR" instead of something that gives CRLF. Then when you open the resulting file in Pages it will not have the big gaps.

Thanks for your help.

I just launched Pages v13.1 on Monterey with three paragraphs of text. I selected them, changed the font size to 14 pt, and set the Line spacing at a factor of 1.4.

However, when I went to make a decimal adjustment to the After Paragraph amount, it allowed me to enter it and then reverted to an integer. Apparently, Apple fixed this revulsion to decimal in later versions of Pages.

I copied/pasted this Pages content into a TextEdit Rich Text document window. On the Format Text > Spacing… panel, I could set a decimal paragraph spacing and when that TextEdit content was copied/pasted back into Pages, the After Paragraph setting was the same decimal value, not a rounded integer.

Frankly, I have never seen the need to copy Pages content into TextEdit to control paragraph spacing as the After Paragraph integer values have always been sufficient. The only legitimate line ending on macOS and in Pages is the line feed (LF) as it is a UNIX operating system beneath the Finder and Pages will automatically convert CRLF or CR to LF on opening a document.
